Quantitative Trait Locus (QTL) Services

QTL mapping is the positioning of one or more QTL between genetic markers on chromosomes through the analysis of correlations between genetic markers and traits. Compared with GWAS, QTL mapping has a long history, having been developed over nearly a century, and is a major tool for studying the genetic basis of quantitative traits. Usually QTL mapping starts by crossing two parents with extreme traits to obtain F1, F1 is self-fertilized to obtain F2 and trait segregation occurs, secondly individuals with extreme traits in F2 are sequenced in separate mixed pools and both parents are sequenced at the same time, finally SNP-Index is calculated separately and SNP loci with significant differences greater than 0 are used as candidate QTL loci.

CD Genomics focuses on plant and animal science research, helping researchers to identify and mine genes of breeding importance and accumulate resources for future precision breeding in agriculture. Most economically important traits in plants and animals are quantitative traits, and the study of quantitative trait inheritance is of great importance to plant and animal breeding. With the rapid development of molecular marker technology, QTL mapping in plant and animal genomes will have important applications.

QTL services can be applied in the following studies

  • Identifying QTL related to important agronomic traits.
  • Finding and cloning functional genes with independent intellectual property rights.
  • Molecular marker-assisted breeding to produce good breeds.
  • Rapidly identify QTL loci suitable for breeding important plants and animals.

Research samples and prerequisites for QTL services

Research samples Naturally occurring material, generally temporary (F2 mapping populations) or permanent populations (such as recombinant inbred lines, double haploid systems.) with important agronomic traits.
Prerequisites Trait selection
  • Large differences in target traits between parents.
  • Clear segregation in progeny and easy grouping of phenotypic traits.
  • Both parents are distantly related and have enough polymorphic molecular markers.
